Like most fishing guides, we started this business on our home waters.  We grew up here.  We know the water like the back of our hands.  But like all fishermen we seek new water.  The thrill of an unexplored river intrigues us all.  So we venture onward, not so far from home but exploring what other great southern tailwaters have to offer.  In our years before starting Cumberland Drifters we fished as much as possible.  Not because it was for the business, but because we could fish these great rivers.  We’re very fortunate to live near so many great fisheries.  In the past we never advertised guided trips on these waters simply because the Cumberland was always there for us.  Nowadays the Cumberland suffers for weeks on end after heavy rains due to the ongoing repair work on our old dam.  Lake Cumberland is massive and it takes a very long time to draw her back down to the mandated pool level set by the Corps of Engineers.  So we went back to what we knew, and that’s go fishing where the rivers are fishing.  So we offer you an opportunity so see some water you may not have seen.  You might find yourself surprised to find out how close to home they actually are.

So on the menu for 2010 we offer the Clinch and the Holston in Tennessee.  Obviously these rivers will always be on the menu….it’s just now we’re actually advertising them.

The Clinch is one of our favorites.  It’s technical for an oarsman.  It makes you work.  It eats away at your boat like a cancer.  But it’s majestic, quiet, and rewarding.  It holds some enormous fish.  A 28 pound brown trout was taken from this river and still stands as the Tennessee state record.  You can catch Rainbows, Browns, and Brooke Trout all in the same day and the best part is that it’s the same driving time from Lexington and Cincinnatti as the Cumberland.

The Holston:  One of many great Tailwaters in Tennessee and only an hour from where we put in on the Clinch.  It is the perfect weekend river for those of you looking for the ultimate adventure.  It offers beautiful scenery and great fishing.  We highly suggest if you’re looking for a weekend getaway you give us a call and do a day on the Clinch followed by a day on the Holston.  It’s hard to beat that folks!

As spring rains have plagued us for the past two years we feel very fortunate that we spent the time in the early days to fish these rivers.  Now we offer you our experience to continue the good times you have had with us in the past on some new waters.
